CAE Inc. Buys Bombardier’s Military Aviation Training Business

CAE simulation technologies

Formerly known as Canadian Aviation Electronics, CAE Inc. is a Canada-based manufacturer of simulation technologies, modeling technologies, and training services which cater to a wide range of consumers including aircraft manufacturers, airlines, defense customers, mining companies, and healthcare specialists. Their services and solutions are designed to help their customers meet mission critical needs for safety, efficiency, and readiness.

In January 2015, CAE Inc. announced their USD$15.9 million purchase of Bombardier’s military aviation training business. This acquisition puts CAE in charge of NATO Flying Training in Canada (NFTC) program in Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan, and Cold Lake, Alberta. This NFTC program consists of both basic and advanced pilot training for prospective fighter pilots of the Royal Canadian Air Force and their allies. Once the deal is finalized later in 2015, CAE will also be in charge of the operation of base facilities as well as ground-school classroom instruction.

In 2012, CAE reported USD$1.4 billion in revenues, 90 percent of which were derived from international activities and worldwide exports. For the fiscal year 2014, CAE assigned USD$130 million of their revenue to research and development. Not surprisingly, they are ranked consistently as one of Canada’s top 20 companies in research and development investments.

Today, CAE Inc. is a global network employing 8,000 workers at more than 160 sites and training locations across 35 countries. They also offer civil aviation, military, and helicopter training services in 67 locations worldwide and train more than 120,000 civil and military crew members each year.
