Det-Tronics: Safety Solutions for Critical Industrial Applications

Founded in 1973, Det-Tronics (or Detector Electronics Corporation), is headquartered in Minneapolis, Minnesota. With a workforce of approximately 300 strong and 18 sales offices worldwide, the company is a unit of aerospace conglomerate United Technologies Corporation. Det-Tronics specializes in the design and manufacture of industrial hazard safety systems including both conventional panels and fault-tolerant, addressable systems. The company’s product portfolio consists of: fire and gas safety systems, flame detectors, and gas detectors. Certified to ISO 9001 and a member of the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA), the company was also honored by the Hart Energy’s Meritorious Award for Engineering Innovation in 2014 in the health, safety, and environment (HSE) category for its FlexSonic™ acoustic gas leak detector. Det-Tronics also strives to remain on the cutting edge of technology. In October 2014, the company developed connectivity capability for its EQP fire and gas safety controller. With this new Ethernet/Modbus TCP/IP interface board option on the EQP, the controller can communicate with other devices on the Ethernet Local Area Network. Det-Tronics’ safety systems are certified to a whole host of safety and quality standards including: NFPA 72-2010, SIL (safety integrity level) 2 capable within Safety Instrumented Systems (SIS), FM/CSA/ATEX/CE approved, Loss Prevention Certification Board (LPCB) approved to EN54 and EN 12094, BRE approved to EN54, and USCG approved to 46 CFR 161.002. Their signature line, the Eagle Quantum Premier® (EQP) system, supports distributed/addressable-loop (components can be located anywhere in the communication network) and point-to-point architectures (easily upgradable), are fault tolerant, and feature configurable detection and extinguishing agent releasing systems/deluge operations. The EQP is equipped with numerous input/output modules for add-ons including dry-contact closure devices, 24 Vdc activation equipment, 4-20 mA analog devices, PLCs, fans, dampers, remote zone protection, as well as detection and notification devices for non-hazardous areas. The company also offers integrated 3D mapping software to improve hazard detection coverage in compliance with HSE, ISA 84, ANSI, IEC 61508, and LOPA process and safety requirements. The company’s line of flame detectors utilize UV, IR, UV/IR, Dual IR, and Multispectrum IR technologies for covering vast swathes of area and filtering false signals. Available with optional HART®-protocols (which communicates digital signals such as diagnostic parameters), Det-Tronics signature X-series product lines include: X3301 (multi-fuel off axis detection for small fires), X3302 (with 100 foot on-axis and 100 foot off-axis range), X5200 (dual UV/IR for both capable signal processing and high-speed detection), X9800 (dual IR for high-contaminant areas), and X2200 (for specialized conditions such as metal fires and sulphur). Finally, their line of gas detectors utilize nanotechnology metal oxide semiconductor (NTMOS), catalytic, electrochemical, and IR absorption technologies which can sense all manners of acoustic, combustible, and toxic gasses. The company also offers various smoke detectors and surveillance camera product lines.
