Kaman Wins Contract to Supply FTE Kits for Boeing KC-46A Pegasus Tanker

Kaman Aerosystems, a division of the powerful Kaman Corporation, is a United States aerospace company headquartered in Bloomfield, Connecticut. In its first ten years, it operated exclusively as a designer and manufacturer of several helicopters that set world records and achieved many aviation firsts. At the end of last month, Kaman Aerospace Corporation announced that they have been selected by Boeing to manufacture and supply fixed trailing edge (FTE) kits for Boeing’s KC-46A Pegasus tanker program. The KC-46A is a military aerial refueling and strategic transport aircraft developed from Boeing’s 767-200ER that has been designed to replace the United States Air Force’s ageing fleet of KC-135 aircrafts.  In March 2014, Kaman handed over its first KC-46A Tanker FTE kit to Boeing which paved the way for their new partnership. Over the course of this new multi-year contract, Kaman will supply Boeing with an undisclosed number of KC-46A FTE kits.

By August 2017, Boeing is under contract to have 18 KC-46 refueling aircraft delivered to the USAF, which plans to acquire a total of 179 tankers by 2027. The fully provisioned KC-46A tanker is expected to undergo its first flight in early 2015, while delivery of the first production aircraft to the USAF is anticipated to take place in early 2016.
