US Army Awards Lockheed Martin a $21.7M Contract to Supply the M-DSA for the AH-64E Apache

The United States Army has recently awarded a Lot 4 follow-on contract to Lockheed Martin in order to continue the production of the Modernized Day Sensor Assembly (M-DSA) kits for the AH-64E Apache attack helicopter. The contract awarded by the United States Army is valued at $21.6 million. Under this contract, Lockheed Martin will be expected to produce and deliver 786 Modernized Laser Rangefinder Designator (M-LRFD) kits. To date, Lockheed Martin has already delivered more than 200 kits to the United States Army. The total value of this contract is not to exceed $50.9 million.

These updated M-LRFD kits represent the first phase of upgrades to the Apache’s day sensor assembly. M-LRFD is the primary targeting guide for the Apache attack helicopter, providing the pilots with the ability to designate targets and establish an accurate target range for weapon engagement.

We are currently fielding laser kits as part of the M-DSA Phase I upgrade and are on track to equip approximately seven Apache battalions a year, said Matt Hoffman, the director of Lockheed Martin Missiles and Fire Control M-TADS / PNVS.

Lockheed Martin has already qualified M-DSA Phase II upgrades and is already prepared to transition into production. The M-DSA Phase II upgrades are expected to enable Apache pilots to see high-resolution, near infrared and color imagery on cockpit displays. The Phase II upgrades will also include a new laser pointer marker and a multi-mode laser with eye-safe lasing capability, which will allow for better coordination among ground troops and safe flight during training exercises and in urban environments.
