FSG 31 Bearings

Since the US government uses and procures so many different parts in the federal supply chain, it is essential to have a classification system in place to categorize and keep track of said parts. This is known as the National Stock Number, or NATO Stock Number internationally, a 13-digit unique number that identifies an item and designates very specific types of information, such as the country that classified it and the general category it falls under. This 13-digit number is composed of several parts, the first being the 4-digit Federal Supply Classification Group (FSCG), which is further composed of a 2-digit Federal Supply Group (FSG) and a 2-digit Federal Supply Code (FSC). The 9 digits that follow are known as the NIIN, or National Item Identification Number, which is composed of a 2-digit NCB (National Codification Bureau) along with a unique 7-digit item number. The Defense Logistics Agency, the agency in the US Department of Defense responsible for providing logistical support to all US military branches, is also the one that assigns and regulates this NSN system.
