The AgustaWestland AW119 Ke, otherwise known as the AW119 Koala Enhanced, is a utility helicopter currently produced by Leonardo. Since initial production in 2000, around 300 units have been manufactured that are in service by users such as the State of Mexico Government, Finnish Border Guard, Portuguese Air Force, and United States Navy. While the AW119 Koala was developed from the AgustaWestland AW109 in the 1990’s, the Koala Enhanced variant came about in the late 2000’s and brought changes to the rotor blade design, increased payload performance, improved cabin flexibility, and more.
The AW119 Ke is a single engine multirole helicopter, featuring a Pratt & Whitney PT6B-37A turboshaft. With this configuration, the AW119 is capable of producing 1,002 horsepower to travel at a maximum cruise speed of 139 knots. With a fuel tank capacity of 230 gallons, the AW119 can operate with a range of 547 nautical miles and has a fuel economy equating to 2.38 nautical miles per gallon. Housed within the nose of the rotorcraft, a number of avionics have been integrated into the AW119. Newer models may feature a Garmin G1000 glass cockpit, bringing a variety of safety and performance improvements. Other avionics such as aircraft flight control systems, SVS, HITS, radio altimeters, and more may also be featured.
