The AH-1Z Viper is an attack helicopter that is designed and manufactured by Bell Helicopter. Since the model’s initial release in 2000, over 60 units have been produced and primarily serve the United States Marine Corps for the H-1 upgrade program to update their rotorcraft inventory. As a part of the upgrade program, the AH-1Z Viper modernizes the attack and utility helicopters of the Marine Corps inventory, all while reducing operational costs by using much of the same components as the UH-1Y model. The AH-1Z also provides a variety of upgrades in regards to avionics, weapon systems, and rotor technology.
