Offered to the United States Air Force to fulfill their Utility Trainer Experimental (UTX) program, the Sabreliner was produced over the years between 1959 and 1982. In total, over 800 units were produced, many of which are in the active service of operators such as the United States Air Force, United States Navy, and the United States Marine Corps. During production, the Sabreliner was also produced as a commercial variant, adjusting its design for civilian use.

With two Pratt & Whitney J60-P-3 turbojet engines producing 3,000 pound-force each, the Rockwell Sabreliner can reach a maximum speed of 478 knots.
