Functionality of Bushing Sleeves
Sleeve bushings, sometimes referred to as a sleeve bearing, are placed between components to allow for linear movement. Sleeve bushings utilize sliding motions and composite sleeves to reduce vibrations, noise, and friction. Sleeve bushings may be manufactured from a variety of materials, some including bronze, steel, and stainless steel. Two common types of bushing sleeves are the cylindrical and flanged bearings. Sleeve bushings are similar to rolling bearings, though they are composed of only one part. Sleeve bushings may have a flange at one end to reduce the diameter of a hole.

Common Applications of Bushing Sleeves
Bushings serve a variety of applications, especially in the aviation and automotive industries. Within an aircraft, bushings are present within the landing gear of a fixed wing aircraft, or within various systems of rotary wing aircraft. For automobiles, bushings are installed within the suspension system to mitigate vibrations and stressors. When sleeve bushings are installed within a hole of a component, the bushing acts to protect the outer body from pressure and various stresses.
