The Eurocopter AS350 is a light helicopter designed and manufactured by Eurocopter. The aircraft has been in production since 1975 and has a base price of USD $1.6 million. Development of the AS350 began in the early 1970s as a replacement for the Aerospatiale Alouette II. The Alouette II was popular in military applications, but its commercial sales were less than desired. The AS350 was introduced to serve as an economic, cost-effective civilian aircraft. The first prototype was delivered in 1974, and full scale production and delivery to customers commenced in 1978.
