On January 4, 2016 Airbus has announced that the first delivery of the A320neo will be delayed due to problems and conflicts that are occurring with the plane.
The A320neo is considered a narrow-body jetliner. The A320neo is considered a revamped version of the A320. Airbus tacked on the neo as it is an acronym of ‘new engine option.’ The original deadline for the A320neo was supposed to be delivered by the tail end of 2015.
The German carrier, Deutsche Lufthansa, was going to be the recipient of the first A320neo however, upon talking with Airbus, Airbus made the decision to delay the delivery. Lufthansa said it had agreed with Airbus to delay the delivery to the start of 2016 due to "technical complexities". An Airbus spokesman states that they are in the works of delivering the plane in a timely manner.
Discussions are continuing such that when we deliver the plane, it is truly operational in the Lufthansa fleet, says the Airbus spokesman.
Qatar Airways also planned for the A320neo however they expressed uncertainty over the Pratt & Whitney engines. In addition to Deutsche Lufthansa, the engine market Pratt & Whitney, who manufactures the PW1100G geared turbofan engine in the A320neo, also agreed to the delay of the narrow body jetliner.
