General Atomics and SENER Bring Predator B to Spain

General Atomics Aeronautical Systems (GA-ASI) and SENER signed a recent contract for the use of GA-ASI’s Remotely Piloted Aircraft (RPA) systems. SENER, founded in 1956, is a Spanish engineering company specializing in the fields of aerospace engineering, infrastructures, transport, power, and marine. By “offering solutions and products that are technologically efficient and innovative,” SENER has been a leading provider for defense and security sectors in Spain.  This contract marks an important joint effort between this flourishing Spanish company and United States’ GA-ASI, an affiliate of General Atomics.

GA-ASI is a manufacturer of RPA systems, including Predator A, Predator B/MQ-9 Reaper, Gray Eagle, the new Predator C Avenger, and Predator XP. The contract specified the allocation of Predator B RPAs but both companies see a future for more technology. Tested with over one million flight hours, this RPA will safeguard borders, conduct marine approaches, support military missions, and respond to natural disasters for the Spanish Ministry of Defense.

SENER’s employment of about 2,500 professional workers is predicted to increase with the development of the RPA. The growth of high-professional jobs will help further this technology and allow access to more companies worldwide. SENER currently has locations in Algiers, Argentina, Brazil, China, Columbia, United Arab Emirates, United Kingdom, United States, India Japan, Mexico, Poland, Santiago de Chile, Spain, and South Korea.

Besides GA-ASI’s development of RPA technology, they have also made advancements in Ground Control Stations (GCSs). This includes the Advanced Cockpit GCS. They also provide pilot training and support for RPA field operations, which greatly assists customers to properly and accurately use machines.
