FSG 28 Engines Turbines and Components

Every part used and procured in the federal supply chain is classified and categorized by a National Stock Number or NATO Stock Number(NSN). An NSN is a unique 13-digit identifying number, which is composed of   specific subgroups, each designating a specific piece of information. The first subgroup is a 4-digit Federal Supply Classification Group (FSCG). Relatively similar items all have similar FSCGs. The Federal Supply Group (FSG), a 2-digit number, is the first part of the FSCG. The following 2-digits are the Federal Supply Code (FSC). The remaining 9 numbers in the NSN are known as the NIIN, or National Item Identification Number. This includes a 2-digit NCB (National Codification Bureau) that signifies the country to first codify the item as well as 7-digit unique item identifying number. The National Stock Number, which is recognized by both the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) and the US Department of Defense, is governed by the Defense Logistics Agency. This is an agency that is responsible for all logistical support to the US armed forces and US military agencies.
