Part Family: Nuts and Washer

Manufacturers: Nuts are manufactured by Tempest, Able Aerospace, Aerocontrolex Group, Zodiac/Air Cruisers Company, Honeywell Aerospace, ADPMA, and Rolls Royce Corp.

Functionality of a Nut:

Nuts are used when conjoining two or more items together; they most commonly connect wood and metal components. Nuts are always used in combination with a bolt, which helps to lock the two components into place and prevents any unwanted movement or friction. The head of the nut will be threaded, as will the bolt, ensuring the fit is locked into place.

There are many different types of nuts, but the one you will most frequently come across is the hexagonal nut; its six-sided shape offers ease of use.  These nuts range from ¼” to 2 ½” and come in a variety of materials including: steel, stainless steel, aluminum, brass, nylon and silicon bronze.  It is important to always pair like materials when using nuts and bolts, as contrasting materials can cause an improper fit and function.

FSG: Nuts are categorized under FSG 53: Hardware and Abrasives

FSC: Nuts are categorized under FSC 5310: Nuts and Washers

Common Applications:

Nuts are a fundamental part in the construction of a vast array of items. From the building of a house, to the structure of an aircraft, nuts and bolts can be found holding materials together, throughout. When used in combination, they offer a bond strong enough to withstand a great amount of stress and friction– making them the perfect bonding agent.
