Functionality of Sensitive Switches: Sensitive switches are electrical components found within an electrical circuit. The switch can turn on or off the electrical circuit when pressure is placed on a highly sensitive metal plate. The main purpose of a switch is to regulate the current that travels between the load and the power source. When pressure is placed on the metal plate, the switch breaks the electrical circuit therefore cutting off the power to the device or system. When the metal plate is relieved of pressure, the switch closes up the gap in the circuit allowing the electric current to flow freely and restoring power to the device or system. Sensitive switches are more complex than regular mechanical switches.

Common Applications: Sensitive switches can be used with air, or other fluids to activate a pump or compressor when there are changes in pressure. In aircraft pressure switches are used in almost every system. In a commercial aircraft, the cockpit chair that the pilot sits in is fitted with a switch that senses whether the pilot is in the chair. A jet engine fuel system relies on sensitive switches to move fuel from one fuel tank to another. Engineers can use switches to monitor the overall performance of an aircraft. Various switches can be placed throughout the aircraft which monitor the pressure levels in certain systems of the aircraft. If the switch is triggered too soon, or not triggered at all it can be an indication of a possible system fault.
