Functionality of Screws
A screw is a type of threaded fastener, similar to a bolt, but differs in that its thread is helical and fastens an object through digging into the material when being tightened, preventing it from being pulled out. The materials that screws can be used for include wood, metal, and plastic, though can also be utilized for others as well. The material that it is fastened into may already have a complementary thread, or a thread may be created as the screw is inserted. A variety of tools may be used to tighten a screw, depending on the size and shape of the head. The head is often larger than the body to ensure that it cannot be driven deeper than the length of the screw itself. While screws and bolts are very similar, screws do not often have a corresponding nut and can usually be fastened into a material without one.
