The Mexican ultra-low cost carrier VivaAerobus
The Mexican ultra-low cost carrier VivaAerobus has received its first delivery of an Airbus A320 that is a part of the 52 aircraft order placed in October 2013. This order of 52 aircraft includes 12 A320ceo and 40 A320neo and was the largest Airbus aircraft order from a single airline in the history of Latin America.
VivaAerobus is currently flying six A320s that were leased in March 2014 and 19 Boeing 737-300. The airline plans to shift out their Boeing fleet to an all-Airbus aircraft operation by early 2016. The new fleet of A320s will allow for VivaAerobus to remain as a low cost and fare operation, all while providing a new and improved aircraft for their customers. The A320neo will be able to offer at least 30% more of fuel savings as compared to the current 737-300.
The Airbus A320 family of aircraft is the world’s best-selling single aisle aircraft with over 11,700 orders to date and over 6,500 aircraft delivered to 400 customers and operations worldwide. There currently exists 4 variants - A318, A319, A320, and A321- that compete with the Boeing 737, 757-200, and 717. American Airlines is the largest airline operator of the A320 aircraft as they service approximately 331 of these aircraft. Other primary users include EasyJet, China Southern Airlines, and China Eastern Airlines.
VivaAerobus is a Mexican low cost airline that is a part of IAMSA, the biggest bus company group in Mexico. Founded in 2006, the airline initially connected General Mariano Escobedo International Airport to several domestic Mexican locations. Currently, VivaAerobus has expanded their reach as the company now flies to several locations in the United States of America. As more A320s are delivered, the company hopes to convert bus passengers to air travelers based in Cancun, Guadalajara, Mexico City, and Monterrey.
